Want to be a blogger?

Want to be a Blogger?

I had to repost this from my other site on this page. I have updated this article for more better guidance. I had been getting many questions regarding blogging.
It is a taboo that blogging is done by unemployed people, but that’s not true. Some people get involved in blogging to publish their writing without any expectation of earning whereas some find it as one of the sources of earning. The first and foremost thing is to improve your writing skills. Read lots of articles or books. The more you read, the more you learn to write.

I will mention here the most simple steps to start blogging and the rest will be updated based on new questions. These are the following steps :

1] Why do you want to be a blogger?

Ask yourself the reason you want to be a blogger. Do you want to express something personal through the blog? You want to achieve this and earn money in return? You are not interested in earning money, but want to publish your articles on your site to reach out to fellow friends or readers.
2]What kind of blogger you aspire to be?
a]Mainly stories blogger
b]Random Topics
c]Tutorials/Teaching(Can be any topic)
d]Business Purpose/E-Commerce
e]Sports Blogger
f] Travel Tips/Stories
g]Own Diary/Personal Blog
h]Photography
i]Others
You can add images, videos, audios in the blog post.

2] First decide whether you want your own site(Self-hosting) or free site.

Own site means you need to purchase a domain and host. Later on, connect it to any platform such as WordPress or BlogSpot or Wix. You can also make WordPress as your site host and domain too.
Free site means you simply create your account on either WordPress or BlogSpot and start publishing your posts. The benefit of having own domain(custom domain) and self-hosting is your site will be eligible for monetization. With the free site, you will not be able to earn. The domain name of the paid site will be of your choice. For Example, You would like to name your domain as HumptyDumpty. The free site address will look like this :
HumptyDumpty. wordpress.com. Whereas the paid site domain will be this :
HumptyDumpty.com.

3]How to choose themes for your site?

When you are creating a blog, in the starting steps itself the option will be shown for themes. From the same theme list, you have to choose the one you like. Some themes are paid ones, so it’s up to you to buy it or not. And remember you can always change the theme by going to the “edit” /”customize” option in your blog site.

4] Earning through Ads

You need to have AdSense account to start earning through ads posted on your site. AdSense is provided by Google. WordAds is provided by WordPress. Bloggers on WordPress can purchase a Premium plan to have WordAds and Business plan to have AdSense. Both of them require consistently growing traffic on your site.  When any visitor on your site clicks on those Ads, you earn money for that click. But, you should not click on the Ads on your own site and probably from your IP Address too.

5]Want to have different sections such as poems and stories to be placed differently?

WordPress allows you to have different blog sites from the same account. Follow the below steps:
[a] Login to your WordPress account
[b]Once you logged in, on the right-hand upper corner of the page you will see 2 options
“My Sites” and “Reader”
[c] Click on “My Sites”
[d] Once you click on My Sites, you will see the list of your sites at the right side of the page.
Click on “Add New Site”.

6]How to get exposure for your blogs?

Post the link to your blog on Social Networking sites(Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest). Share it with your family, friends or facebook groups and other blogging forums. Also, make sure you read other blogger’s article on WordPress or other sites and try to follow them. The more you connect or interact with others, the more followers you will get. But, the most important thing is to try to improve your writing skills and come out with creativity.

7] Some of the companies that provide Domain and Host are WordPress, Bluehost, Hostgator, and GoDaddy.

8]Learn the concept of SEO.

There are millions of bloggers. 95% time the topic chosen by you is already written by many people. So, you need to really work hard to make your post unique through the writing process and additional information.

9] Virtual Writers cum Assistant

Many people want to start blogging for the sake of earning but do not possess any writing skill. In such cases, you can hire people to work for you. Advice: Please pay the writer a good amount because they really deserve it. Most people tend to pay a cheap amount for the writers.

10]To get huge traffic, you need to write topics frequently. You can either write daily or once a week.

11] Website Development

People who want to have customized sites can opt for a website developer. You can either learn website developing skills to design the site all by yourself and create your required blog or hire a website developer/ front-end developer to do the same for you.

12] Note: You can click on the blue links in the steps to see the detailed information provided by the WordPress site. You can click on the image added in the below steps to understand the steps in much clear form.
For those of you who need more information on how to start the site on WordPress, follow the below steps but before that  Click here forWordPress

to open in a new tab.
Step 1:
You can see the button Get Started on the first page either on the corner or on the middle of the page.

You can open above image in new tab to see the image clearly for the Get Started button.
***Once you click on it, you will be redirected to Create your account page wherein you will have two ways of creating the account.

First way:
Enter your email address of yahoo or gmail . Enter/Type your username and Enter the password. Username and Password can be completely decided by you. If you receive the red warning same as below image: Sorry, that username already exists! In this case, type some other username or change some letters in the username.

Click on Create your account button.
Second way:
You can skip with these three inputs and directly click on Continue with Google which will connect your Gmail account details with WordPress.

Step 2:

Add the name of the site, (about) describe your site, and then choose the primary goal of your site. Remember this section is very important.

Next just mention on the scale of 1 to 5 how comfortable you are while creating this site. Simply click on the number box.

Step 3:

Give the name to your site which will act as domain name also known as the site address. Site address is the link of your site which you can share with the people and anyone can visit it. People who have already purchased domain from other companies can directly add their domain name.

If you don’t have domain name, then add the name in Enter a name or keyword. After entering you will see the number of domain options available. You can choose whichever you like out of it. 1 or 2 domain names will be free and rest of them are paid ones. You can either purchase the domain or just choose the free ones.

Step 4:

Pick a plan that is appropriate for your requirements.

As you see in the image, there are 4 plans provided by WordPress Plans

You need not to pay anything for a free plan. As mentioned earlier, the free plan domain address will be “yoursitename.wordpress.com” whereas the purchased plan address will be “yoursitename.com” or any other registered domain.
With  Premium Plan , your site will be eligible for monetization. You can choose WordAds Program for earning through ads displayed on your site by WordPress.

With Business Plan , you can monetize your site through different sources. You can allow WordAds. You can even apply for Google Adsense Program. You will have more exposure to add plugins. Business plan is more useful by the website developers to customize the site the way , they want it to be.

Step 5: Congratulations !! Your site has been created.
But, we still have more things to do in order to give proper designs and layout to your site.
First, verify your email id by clicking on Resend email button.

Step 6:
Time to design your site. Choose/Click on  Customize Themes from the list of the left menu on the site.

Next, you will see All, Free, Premium plans.

All will show you Free and Premium Themes. Free is no charge for the theme. Premium is, you have to pay the given price of the theme. Theme is the design, it is the representation of your site.

For example: I have choosen this theme.

Open Live Demo will show how the chosen theme will be displayed. Once you are satisfied with it, you can choose/click on the Activate this design.
You will see this below message.

You can choose either of both buttons. Learn about this theme will direct you to the Overview and again Customize Site button will be shown. So you will land upon Customize site Page which will look same as the below image. This is left side menu of the site.

You can make changes accordingly to the site and click on Publish.
Your site is all ready to set go. 🙂
If you happen to stuck anywhere while following the above steps, or you have any queries then please drop down in the comment or contact me through the given details on the site.

13]   However, there is no guarantee whether your blog site will fetch you a profitable amount. It all depends on the efforts and money invested to get a good number of visitors on your sites who are really clicking the Ads. There is a guarantee to get paid from the companies for the blog sites that sell products online or write reviews for products. Thus, earning is possible through Ads, Product Reviews or Sales, Affiliate links/sales, and Sponsored Posts.
