OCD Is Not A Joke!
Chapter 1

As per Indian tradition in the early morning , women put rangoli in front of the house. Rangoli is an art form that is meant to produce positive energy for the home. The same tradition is being followed by my mother.

rangoli chap 2
A tradition turned into a nightmare. One of the ocd type is Scrupulousity OCD. Scrupulousity OCD involves deep religious thoughts. There is a fear of doing any mistake that will make the person angry their respective God/Goddess.  It disrupts their mind when anyone goes against their ritual methods. Even the Pandits, Father or any superior person of religion will not agree with this person’s rituals. Such people will keep doing different remedies of overcoming sins repeatedly. In Hindu, there are long duration of different pujas and havans. So, the person will keep doing such puja havans every now and then. This person will not pray to God without taking bath. Even if the bath is already taken but the visit to temple or prayer to God is after few hours then the person will once again take bath prior to it. Similarly, christain person may repeatedly visit the confession room. In Muslim, while washing hands before the prayer, the person will wash his/her hands multiple times to feel the purity.
These people have strong belief in black magic. There is a fear of people doing black magic for which they find ways to protect themselves from black magic. Person with Scruplousity OCD will love preaching about God and religion to others. They want everyone to believe in their principles ,their thoughts, their rituals and follow the same.
Normally, only on occasions big rangolis or colourful rangolis are made.
But in my family, my mother started making big rangoli as compulsion for daily routine. Normal people clean the area by sweeping or they just use some cloth to wipe off the floor. Following it, they  make simple and small or border rangolis. My mother used to do same.

How the repetation and behavior changed?

The next step, she did is that she made me put big rangoli for complete month on every festival. Indians have so many festivals by which one can know the number of days of we designing rangoli are higher. Then she changed to putting big rangoli daily.
Alongside, her rule was sweeping and mopping only one time before putting rangoli.
Then during festival months,   (sweeping , mopping and put rangoli) twice a day.
The next thing , she started hallucinating that neighbour is doing some black magic.
She imagined ,neigbour drops Kumkum -a red powder or Angar- a grey powder on rangoli. Then she thought someone coming in front of our door daily from neighbour’s house and doing black magic. This is completely her hallucination.

How it got mixed with OCD?

She started cleaning front door and front place with dry cloth then wet cloth. She swept and mopped floor before rangoli. She changed timings of a day of putting rangoli so that neigbour don’t do black magic. It was all in her mind but she made real rules based on her beliefs. Then she forced us to create a window in the passage which is closer to the neighbour window.

Next level is this :

She sweeps the floor then mops the small floor 10 times and then cleans the beside little stone bench and door then mops the floor again . Then she cleans window with dry cloth then with wet cloth. Then she mops floor. Once again, she sprinkles water on the floor and wipes the floor with another cloth. Overall, total 4 clothes and sweeping rod , mop rod, and a bucket full of water only for this small matter.
She does not take bucket used for cleaning inside house . Because, she thinks goddess will enter house. Hence, dirt should not come inside. Therefore, the bucket should be taken inside home later after hours. You may have got confuzzled with this stanza of repeatative tasks. Imagine the same lines are actually acted in real, the amount of stress that goes around in doing the same task excess of time.
Since , Rangoli is a form of art ,  one could take this task positively and do it daily but the amount of stress involved with the Scruplousity OCD is unbearable. We have to avoid neighbour contact and if neigbour step out then she will think that they did black magic . Even if they don’t step out , she will still assume same because of her hallucination.

As previously explained, there is a fear of what will god or goddess do.
For example, she makes it compulsion to  draw shree symbol in rangoli without fail.
Moreover, throughout the process of rangoli, she is panicked and in  angry mood. Hence, anything going wrong triggers  her to create a worse day for all . All these beliefs increased the hallucination and she decided to leave this place to get rid of neigbour ‘s black magic(unreal thing. ) My mother has done unbearable dramas at home for this simple things. Her mind does not accept breakage in this repeation process and anyone against her such hallucinated beliefs. This thing has broken the relationship with good neigbour. We can’t face them or talk to them because she has restricted us. If we do so, then she will create an unforgettable trauma for all.

Please note, this post has no intention of saying anything against any religions. It is based on the sources, that explain how it can involve different religions. It is more about the OCD person and less about a religion. It only shows how a strong abnormal belief reaches higher than normal belief of god or goddess and supernatural things.

Know the things:

There is a need to take precautions. Don’t take the pattern changes of your loved ones lightly because with the development of symptoms , things get uncontrollable. It will lead to inviting more mental disorder symptoms. Each task is repeated multiple times. The person does not do  the work all alone  but asks some family members to do it. Please note that the ocd person does not enjoy doing such stress work. This stress work also affects their emotions and they feel frustrated to do it and at the same time avoiding work will give them a breakdown. This drains energy, valuable time for all family members and acts as an obstacle for other work or self time. Doing unnecessary work daily turns into an unavoidable stress for everyone. Because of one person’s mental imbalance, other family memebers eventually get mentally affected.

Society does not accept such levels of OCD. My neighbours make fun of us . When I tried explaining them first time about her other mental disorder . They denied to accept the term, mental disorder and said, “Your mother is a weird person.”.

We can’t tell every outsider, what mental disorder is!
We can only try our best to aware the world about mental health through different mediums.

To conclude, if we have symptoms then we should accept and meet doctors for the diagnose and respective treatment. In the same way, we should be understanding towards our family member’s any mental disorder and insist them to take the treatment.

Tip :
“Believe in whatever you want, but know the fine line of balancing your belief.”

OCD Series: Chapter 1

Through this real story, you will understand why OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) cannot be treated as a JOKE for everyone.

Flower Photo Spring Pinterest Graphic (3)

Introducing my mother who has two types of OCD.
Neither she takes the treatment nor do my family agree to give her treatment. My father and sister never agreed to give her treatment. Over years, I tried convincing her parents and siblings, even they denied giving any help .No one in my family agreed to opt for her treatment because they thought what will society say if they come to know about her. On another hand, her behavior became a problem for the society itself and yet father and sister did not wanted to take any responsibility. I once went with her to a doctor wherein she did not know her mental check up will also be done. We went for mild health check up and doctor said she does have mental disorders.
In the OCD series, I will not talk about her other mental disorders.
I will explain the experiences of living with a OCD person . In what way, people living with OCD person as well as the OCD person should take the responsibility of curing. Additionally, this is not only a single person OCD symptoms. There are many people out there who seem to have similar behaviour.

The Normal Day:

1] Where ever we stay: a bungalow or an apartment, the front yard of the house or the front passage of the flat needs to be cleaned daily. Even if the place is already cleaned, sweepping then mopping is done early morning around 6a.m. or prior to it. The doors are again cleaned with dry and wet clothes. Throughout the day: if anyone visits home, we go outside and come back, any random person walking in the passage or a courier person or any one else steps in the front passage, then those many times the front yard is cleaned. At the end of day, again in evening the sweeping is done compulsory.
She does not do it all alone always. Sometimes she does it by herself and sometimes she orders me to do it. We cannot avoid this task. Because the consequences of ignoring her orders are not good. She can get very emotional and hurt. She may get violent and have a heated conversation with all the bad words. This simple thing can change into one of the bad days.

One needs to know how to behave with a patient. Although people don’t really use the word patient for the person who has OCD. It is important for everyone to understand the person with any mental disorder and behave with them carefully.

This is the difference between a normal person reaction and the OCD person. The motive is to achieve their task of cleaning and if it undone then it does not give them a peace of mind.

The pattern of doing such an unnecessary task  every day without fail can become an obstacle in other work or for other family members.

It may sound a simple thing but when put into an action 365 days for more than decades, that would mean wasting time.

Cleaning front passage is acceptable :

  • When it is dirty.
  • When there is any occasion and you want everything to look fresh.
  • Once in a day . At the most, twice a day.

Anything that goes beyond limit, needs an attention.

The OCD patient should learn the methods of listening to others especially the ones who love you.

Other people should not take the pattern of OCD person lightly. The earlier the treatment or counselling to change the daily habits, the easier it is to live the life for all.
Only one point [1] of Normal Day has been discussed in this chapter. The next points describing Normal Day will be added in the next chapter.

Have a great day 😊

Tip : “Stay clean, but don’t forget to enjoy. “

Chapter 2

OCD Is Not A Joke!

_OCD IS NOT A JOKE !_

Introduction

“OCD” is not a joke.
OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) is one of the common jokes heard around the couples and friends. It is quite annoying to see the people using the term OCD without knowing its in- depth definition. It is annoying for the people who live every day with a real OCD person. Annoying is not an offensive expression here. It is the level of frustration people go through while living with the OCD member and come across the funny jokes on it.

It is not how it is shown in the entertainment shows. It is not how the jokes are passed. In Friends series, there is a character namely Monica, who has the habit of cleaning house. It looks funny for the audience.
But, it is not funny when the same thing happens in the real life.

In celebrity interviews, many couples tell about their partner having OCD. She/he likes the house to be kept clean. She/he wants the pillow to be in right positions usually. There are laughs and jokes around such small things. Whereas in reality, that partner is clumsy and not really OCD.
In social media posts, we see people often crack jokes of OCD.

There is nothing wrong in having a sense of humor. Even some OCD people would joke about themselves. On the other hand, people are living a dysfunction family life because of a OCD family member.

The truth is OCD is never a joke about just someone who want things to be neat and clean. OCD person will not be happy over servants/maids doing all the job.
OCD person creates a stressful atmosphere for the whole family. Doctors believe it is difficult for the patient to live with OCD. But, the truth is , it is very difficult for others living with a OCD person. A person who has OCD will make everyone follow their rules. Anyone going against the rules, will have to face a terrible drama. By the term drama, it is not funny again. It is a set of exhausting arguments or one can even face a physical harm.

Are all OCD people harmful? Is it difficult for everyone to live with OCD patient? Do we even use the word patient for them?

Every mental disorder has stages. The symptoms develop slowly. In the similar way, OCD habits get multiplied slowly. Once it reaches higher stage, the rate of developing OCD habits increments faster. Therefore, every OCD person’s behaviour is different from each other. Some have minor habits throughout life while some have continuous formation of different habits every day.

OCD is a mental disorder. It makes the person perform the same work repeatedly, rethink the same thought repeatedly, and always live in doubts. Such people are not only obsessed with thoughts and work but also with another person, pet or a religious thoughts and actions.
There are around 10 or more OCD types. This disorder has also the possibility of relating to another mental disorder.

Should OCD person feel bad for being a trouble to others ? Not at all. Majority of OCD people will not realize their habits troubling others. In other way, the best method is to take the treatment and counselling. OCD can be controlled completely at the earliest. One can take the treatment, counselling and follow up certain mental health programs in order to cure from it. On the contrary, some of the psychologist/psychiatrist don’t seem to take OCD disorder seriously. They just diagnose and do not insist the treatment or any changes. Hence, the major steps should be taken by the patient and the doctor to find the methods of getting rid from OCD disorder.

In this OCD series, we will see different types, symptoms, habits, experiences, daily routine life, and how it affects other members of family/friends.

What does anxiety and panic attack feels like?

Anxiety symptoms varies from person to person. There are different levels to it. In certain cases, anxiety is associated with physical illness. In other cases, it is part of mental illness. People had been using the terms nervous and anxiety interchangeably. Slight anxious and nervousness can have a similarity. But anxiety is a separate broad topic. Anxiety is mainly classified into five types. To know detailed information about these types, you can read here :
Types Of Anxiety Disorder

How does the person feels and goes through the anxiety or panic attack duration? Let’s understand the feelings that is being experienced by the person during the anxiety/panic attack.

What Does Anxiety And Panic Attack Feels Like_

1] Nervousness Vs. Anxiety

Nervousness lasts for few seconds or minutes. Nervousness compared to anxiety is easily possible to overcome. Nervousness is a common natural human reaction while trying things for the first time. It is possible to feel the same usually, but it is not as deep as an anxious feeling.

For e.g. [1]: A student feels nervous to give the presentation on the stage. This student has to wait for his/her turn. Until the turn comes, the student feels nervous. He/She will fear of performing in front of all. He/She will doubt the outcomes of presentation. The person may have bit sweaty hands. The student may share with other friends saying, ”I am feeling nervous, don’t know how will I do it!” This student goes to the stage and gives the presentation well. He/She will even forget that nervousness moment and has moved on with other things of class. In another level of nervousness, some students may make slight mistakes while giving presentation because of tensions and doubts on their ability. These students will also move on with other activities of the class for that day or upcoming days. The ones who makes mistakes , may improve over a period of time.

For e.g. [2]: When a group of people visit adventure places, most of them will try adventure sports for the first time. All of them are excited to enjoy this sport. But, few of them will have nervousness as they will try it for the first time. Once they begin the adventure, nervousness is replaced by happiness.
With these two examples, it is noticeable that nervous feeling is an emotion which is solvable without any efforts.

How does the anxiety feels in the same two situations?

In example one, the student will not have any guts of giving presentation on the stage. This student may have prepared 100% good presentation. He/She has practiced many times with no mistakes at home. He/She scored good at exams and hence, has the potential of giving a good presentation. This student will either have sweaty hands or cold body. The heart beats faster. This person may share with other friends, ”I am feeling nervous, don’t know how will I do it. I can’t do it.” Other friends may boost up the student’s confidence level. But, nothing else works out. Student will hesitate to go on the stage. While giving the presentation, this person will be feeling weak and bit of darkness visuals. He/She may make mistakes. After the presentation, they will still have the symptoms for that day or the week. When another day of presentation comes, all the feelings repeat. Additionally, due to previous presentation mistakes, this time the student will have low esteem. They will start developing fear of stage. The symptoms of anxiety will vary from person to person because it depends on the level of anxiety stages.

In example two:
If this person is afraid of trying out any adventure thing, then he/she may not succeed at it. Their heart beat palpitation increases and may develop stomach pains. By courage, if they succeed at the first time, they will still hold up fear to try it second time and sometimes give it up. Again, the symptoms will vary depending on the level of anxiety.

2] Anxiety Levels

The beginning levels of anxiety which can have similarity with nervousness can be cured with the changes of lifestyles and mind tricks.

Intense anxiety is often experienced at social events, phobia, driving, professional life and any new events of life. Intense anxiety includes fear of doing something or going somewhere.

At the social events, the person may not feel comfortable to get along with the people. An anxiety feeling will make the person feel inferior. The fear of people judging her/his behavior. The thought of, “What if one does not eat well or interact well? ‘’ revolves around the mind. What if one fails to dance or sing or do any group activities. The person can suddenly start showing up anxiety symptoms. The hands are sweaty and the body feels lighter or weak. Vision may feel blurrier. Headache or stomach pains begins. The person feels burdensome to finish food properly. There is a similar feeling of some electric slow waves passing along the body nerves. The person feels an urge to leave the place. He/She loses an interest and wants to find a comfortable place usually, it’s the home. In a number of instances, nausea symptom is developed. A nausea feeling and a dizzy head makes the person uncomfortable to hang around the people. Stomach cramps leading to acidity results in low level energy. It becomes difficult for the person to walk , stand or sit comfortably.

Some people  experience the similar symptoms while driving. An individual may have good driving skills but the anxiety will not let them believe it. They will fear from driving in traffic and slowly they may end up giving up driving. The person shivers before starting a vehicle. While taking out the vehicle, the heart races. While driving, any horn or disturbance on the road can scare the person easily.

3] How anxiety transforms to panic attacks?

When a person experiences anxiety often, they develop  the panic symptom in the next stage. Anxiety has the reasons. The person is self-aware of experiencing anxiety and wants to get rid of it but cannot overcome it. In the beginning levels of anxiety, simple tips and lifestyle changes help but later on medicines are much more required for healing. An untreated anxiety leads to panic attacks. Panic attack can happen during an intense anxiety period. But, panic attacks is also unpredictable. It can happen without any reason , to be precise, during the sleep. People wake up in the middle of night due to panic attack with no reason.  Whilst we may not notice the reason for this attack, there lies an unidentified cause. It can be the result of prolonged anxiety issues. Sometimes it results from physical body stress. People who are mentally strong for a long time, may develop panic attacks as well. Because there is a limit to everything. Therefore, a consistent strong mind may get tired up at some moment.

4] How does a panic attack feels like?

While anxiety can have different tips to help with , the same cannot be true with panic attacks. The practice required to calm these symptoms needs more efforts. Panic attacks generally feels same every time for many people. Every time the person reacts as if it is happening for the first time. They know that it is not the first time and it is temporary moment. Unfortunately, the symptoms will lock the person’s mind which makes them difficult to quickly fix themselves.

Panic attack people struggle for breathing. It can happen during the severe anxiety or during the sleep. Once the person starts breathing faster, he/she gets worried thinking it is the heart attack. The feeling of gasping long air and uncomfortable body makes the person conclude it as a dying moment. The person feels nauseated and may have frequent motions. They feel sweaty and chills. The body trembles. A person feels trapped. The feeling of want to come out of this trapped body but can’t. It is not a paralyzed symptom. The person feels helpless and loneliness. The person misses the ones they love. Everything seems to be overwhelming for those moments. It can last for 20 mins to hours.

Recurring panic attack:
The daily life gets affected with recurring panic attacks. Person easily gets affected with loud sound, fights, scary visuals, bad news, or phobias. The heart pounds instantly. Since, the mind is constantly on alert, the person’s heart pounds immediately even if the person is aware that there is nothing to worry about.

For the Harry Potter fans:
Severe anxiety with Panic attacks can be related to this scene wherein:
Dementors the dark floating creatures approach people or your favorite Harry Potter. They suck happiness , love, positive and peaceful mind. They let your body feel cold and helpless with the pains and fears. You try to survive with faster breathing. You can use the wand and say, “Expecto Patronum” and Boom!  The dementor vanishes.

In reality, we don’t have wands. We have different tips, medicines, and our loved ones to get rid of such panic attacks. Most importantly, it’s [us,we, I ] should work consistently to take care of ourselves and keep ourselves stronger and healthier.

Victim Support Guide

VICTIM SUPPORT GUIDE.png

We often hear news about women being molested, raped or sexually abused. It is something we as a person, have got used to. We may feel bad about it for a few mins but we tend to move on with our routine life and forget about it. But what happens when a close friend, a relative or your siblings go through it. Are we really prepared to handle such a situation? Do we really know how to react to someone who confides in us something horrible that they have gone through? Honestly, most of us don’t know. It takes courage and a lot of thought for the victim to open up to someone first. How that person(or we) react to the victim is hence very important. When a female gets physically abused or molested and therefore, is mentally disturbed, she needs someone to listen to her. We often notice on a daily routine life, women go through lots of issues relating to physical abuses. It can be while traveling or at an office place or at a college or any random place and sometimes at home. But such cases are usually ignored and women happen to move on without sharing it with anyone with the fear of being blamed. For instance, a woman at the office is physically abused by her close colleague and she may not have any proof to tell others. A colleague might be a good friend or trusted person so the victim will already be in another thought of being betrayed. She may look out for someone to listen to her incidence and understand her. At this scenario, the victim is already in a mental stress and needs someone to be there for her. Unfortunately, in such cases, even logical people will blame the victim by telling her it is her mistake of being so close friends’ with a colleague.Basically, people often compare such scenes with rape and don’t take it as seriously as raped ones.Remember no victim forces herself for something bad to happen. These incidences have a very negative impact on the victims. Women are also blamed for being over friendly, not dressing appropriately and what not.

The do’s and don’ts  to be followed to help or support the victim:

  • The foremost important thing is- do not blame the victim in any circumstances.
  • Listen to the whole story patiently. (Listen only when the person is ready to share it.) Do not force an individual to describe everything at once. Give them time.
  • Do not comment on her provocative attire.
  • Help her follow up any physical or mental checkup needs.
  • Keep telling victim you are there with her and she should not be scared of anyone.
  • Try to find out the attacker and lodge a complaint.
  • Make sure you help her out to get justice. If ever she decides to give up the process of law, motivate her to continue the process to win the case. If she does not want to proceed further, don’t force her.
  • Whether or not the victim  gets the justice, give her mental therapy every day until she manages to live by herself.
  • Do not gossip about the incidence to others unless the victim is comfortable with it.
  • Furthermore, if you see the victim has moved on, then do not remind them of the past life again and again. As no one forgets the past life, but it is more depressing when the topic is been brought up often leading to get hurt .
  • Some women may make life changes due to the incidence, support her.
  • If the victim is comfortable, help her by setting up or join a support group for her to recover.

How To Help Someone With Anxiety And Panic Attacks?

Whenever anyone is feeling anxious, it becomes slightly difficult for the surrounding people to help in the right manner. Most of the people take the anxiety word lightly. Many people make fun of the people who suffer from anxiety. Ironically, these days ,anxiety is one of the  words used in memes. It is also mistakenly used in place of the word nervousness.

Anxiety can happen to anyone. It can be a child, teenager, adult, family member, colleague, friends or any stranger around the corner. Sometimes the severity of anxiety is visible, and it needs outside help. A severe anxiety has the chance of leading to a panic attack. People can ignore an anxious person but a panic attack is unavoidable. One may get confused to understand the person’s behavior. Most people often think of it as a heart attack or asthma. A panic attack can also be an unpredictable thing. For many people, it occurs in sleep. Waking up with a panic attack can be a more tension situation.

How to help someone with anxiety and panic attacks

With no knowledge of anxiety and panic, one may think of admitting the person immediately. How can you manage all by yourself , when admitting immediately is not possible?
Simple tips can help to stabilize the situation. Let’s check out the tips that can save the trouble:

1] Give water to the person

Make the person drink the water slowly. Since the heart beats are faster, the person will be trying hard to breathe. Drinking a gulp of water can lead to dry coughing. Thus, let the person drink water slowly. Water can help to normal the pressure levels. Keeping body hydrated helps to reduce the fever.

2] Breathe and Feel comfortable

Rub your hands on the person’s back in a slow massaging manner. This helps in calming down slowly. If the person wants to sleep on your lap, you can let them sleep on your lap and pat on their head slowly so that they can go back to sleep. Hug them smoothly and keep saying, “They are all right. The symptoms will go. The moment has passed. I am / We are with you. ”
The person with this attack needs emotional strength. Once they are self-secured that there are people taking care of them, they will feel better. These tips are possible with a family member or friends but may not always work out with a stranger. Ask the person to breathe slowly.  Inhale and exhale slowly with the counts.

3] Give Juice

If you have access to fruits or juice, then let them have a glass of juice. Before giving it to them, ask if they are allergic to it. Do not give any random juice without knowing whether it is suitable to them or not. You can give juice every few hours. This will help in boosting strength. The body stays hydrated and eventually the symptoms decline.

4] A Proper Food

You can give them a sandwich, salad, or cookies. Don’t give any caffeine products, oily or spicy food. Don’t forget to ask them whether they are allergic to any of those items. Additionally, raisins and fruits can be offered too. In-taking food  helps in increasing energy levels.

5] Ginger

If the person is having a nausea feeling, let them have slight bites of ginger. It will help in stopping nausea feeling and headache.

6] Keep Talking

Talk about anything but a good topic. You need to engage them in a conversation. This is much needed to divert their mind. Because the mind is trapped in darkness and body feels locked in with those waves of symptoms. If the person does not have enough energy to reply, then don’t insist on them to talk. When the person feels annoyed with your words, keep quiet. In case, the conversation does not annoy the person then you can continue talking. Just listening to you, can divert their mind for good.

7] Turn On Entertainment

Turn on any entertaining videos, series or movies for them. Let them sit and watch it while eating or drinking healthy item. Generally, this helps to relax the mood which in turn is helpful in getting rid of symptoms.  If they feel irritated to watch, turn it off.

8] Check on health issues

Some people have other health issues. Panic or anxiety can be a part of it. If the person can talk even a little bit, ask them about their medicines. Many people already take medicines for anxiety and panic triggers. Possibly, they might be taking medicines for other illness. It is always better to ask them about medicines and diet to help them with better solutions.

9] Social Comfortness

If you find the person often having social anxiety disorder. Accompany them and make them feel comfort always. Go out often and let them  interact with others. Remind them everything is normal and everyone loves them, there is nothing to worry about. Practicing this often can change the mind thoughts.

10] Home Alone

When no one is around the person during the attacks, it is the most difficult situation. If the person reaches out to you for help through a text or call. Speak to them properly. Keep talking on the call. Tell them, these symptoms are temporary. Make the person believe that he/she is a strong person. Remind them, you are there for them and you will reach to their place as soon as possible. Encourage them to have water, juice or eat something, watch entertainment and rest. Do not cut the call immediately. Talk with them on different topics and engage them in the conversation. If possible, make use of a new technology, the video calls. Video calls are much helpful in making the person feel better. When it is inconvenient for you to keep up with calls, then try texting. Even texting can help the person to better extent. When it is impossible for you to reach the place or to be on the calls and texts, ask someone else to do it for you. Contact someone who is common to both of you or closer to the suffering person. Try to provide help in whichever way possible.

11] Don’t say it.

Never ever say, “Oh, it’s just anxiety!” . “It’s just a panic attack! ” “It’s common , everyone gets it.” “Go and fix yourself !” “Stop being cranky and childish.”
Such discourteous  words affect the person’s emotions. The negative thoughts and rude behavior by others will only help in worsening the symptoms. You never know what all things a person suffers ! Some may be distress with different illness and hence, fighting altogether is not a easy peasy thing. If you can’t help and be rude then don’t say anything. Not saying rude things is also one of the helping tip.

Don’t bore them. Don’t tell them to count numbers, friends, colors  or objects. Don’t ask them to focus on your eyes or constantly look at something. They are already panicked which means they have lost concentration. Making them do boring things will be the last thing they would prefer to do.

You can keep track of such moments so that you can help the person in the future. It will be useful in taking precautions. You can insist on daily walking to them. You can also go out together on different outdoor activities which will engage the person in a positive aura. Walking, exercises and outdoor activities helps the person having a proper sleep. It also helps in leading healthy lifestyle which in turn produces healthy thoughts. People who can get along well with pets should try to have one with them. Having pets around helps to keep the mental health calmer.

These tips are pretty much helpful in stabilizing the situations. Sooner or later you can help the person consult the counselors/ psychologists/psychiatrist. A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) and medicines can reduce the triggers. As many people feel disabled to carry out a normal life because of this attacks, CBT and medicines surely helps to live a normal life back again.

What does anxiety and panic attack feels like?

Programming Other’s Mind

You may have come across the meme,

”If you want to annoy someone, then repeat the same song that they don’t like. So that, the song gets stuck in their mind.”

If you want to annoy someone, then repeat the same song that they don’t like. So that, the song gets stuck in their mind.

It’s true , this works out almost all the times.

We can program other’s mind. Teachers do it daily. We can teach human beings or pets. We can relate this method to religions, communities, organizations, schools, offices, friends and families. Everything is connected internally. Each person’s act is perceived by the viewers either in different or same form. Hence, everything affects everything.

Programming Other's Mind

Programming someone else’s mind is beneficial to change the person for good. If someone has adopted bad habits, it is possible to change them. Yes, there are organizations to change the people. Apart from that, we can do it on a daily basis through daily conversations. Words have the ability to change the person’s thinking direction.

The same applies in curing the patient. Medicines, exercises and rest are recommended for any patient to recover. There are incurable diseases and disorders. But, there are certain diseases/disorders which are curable with long duration of treatments and therapy. Some patients give up sooner or later. Some patients do not have hopes of recovering ever. A hopeless person may fail to follow up therapies. Speaking positive thoughts with the patient can change him/her into a hopeful person. When the patient themselves are motivated by everyone, it is easier for them to take the efforts for their recovery. It is the best practice to program mind of the people suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, or any mental stress because of traumatic events.

A positive atmosphere spreads the good vibes around everyone in the room. Similarly,  a negative atmosphere can spread the bad vibes. If there are a few members of family or any team suffering from anxiety, then it is possible for others getting affected later. When a group of people talk negative things every day , it has the effect on a positive person. When a positive person stays  around many negative people, the mind of a positive person will eventually get affected too. Not necessary for a positive person to have the same pattern of negative thoughts. But, emotionally, the person is affected to see so much of negativeness.

Manipulation is one of the negative skills of a programming mind. Manipulation can be used for good purposes. But, usually people use it for a negative aim. A person can manipulate another person by speaking negative thoughts about anyone or anything. We should always be able to make decisions and react based on our knowledge. Being manipulated by other person can have adverse consequences.

Another negative thing about programming mind is repeating the same story. When a person repeats an unpleasant story to someone almost every day, a listener begins to feel that this is own story. The one who tells the story feeds the story into the listener’s mind in such a way that it becomes the listener’s story. Unfortunately, negative stories make more impact compared to positive stories.

To heal our feelings, we need to share our secrets. It is a good thing to have someone always listening and giving advice to you. This may not work out well 100% time. When you get a habit of sharing everything about your day and thoughts on it with someone else, you let the person judge your day. There can be an exception, some people don’t judge. But, the ones who judge and analyze your day, tend to advise you. They stress on the things that may not be important for you. This leads to an overthinking mind. Another disadvantage of oversharing your secrets or thoughts is, you are not yourself anymore. You report about your life’s each moment to someone else and they decide things for you. This is not a healthy thing for your mind because it starts losing out the self- logical and self-emotional thinking power.

Programming other’s mind will work easily on those who get easily influenced. It will not work on stubborn people. Considering the people who are living with the same person consistently for a prolong time and the ones who are spending more time every day with the same person are more liable to change their mind.

To conclude, we are programmed from the very first day of our birth. We program ourselves daily by learning through the surroundings. Hence, it is possible to program anyone’s mind. We need to learn to whom we should believe. We should be capable of analyzing negative words in the form of not letting it affect our mind. Let others program you with the positive thoughts but do not let them frame a bad canvas in your mind.

What type of mindsets prevents happiness and success?

What type of mindsets prevents happiness and success?

One word answer that prevents happiness and succes is “Negative” mindset. This negativity can come from different sources. Do you hold the negative mindset personality? If not you, then do you observe which people around you hold this kind of mindset? Does the person exist in the family or in the friends’ group or at the workplace? Whose steps are you following to become something in your life?
All these factors have a huge impact on each person’s success and happiness growth.

Anxiety disorder is real or not?

Anxiety disorder is real or not?

Not everyone has got anxiety issues. There are different levels of anxiety. Some people may self diagnose themselves by reading on the internet that they have anxiety. Never self diagnose yourself unless you have accurate knowledge and you prefer to go to the proper clinic and confirm it with the doctor through the health checkups.
People who have anxiety are not losers. Trust me. It is the disorder that makes them fight with things strongly. The tasks may look impossible for their mind, but they take great willpower and boosts themselves enough to fight against anxiety to make things happen in the way they wish it to be. Many people suffering from anxiety can get treated through medications.

The real anxiety disorder people are already finding ways to overcome their problem and find happiness by achieving small or big tasks. Some of them may require a push by their beloved families or friends. The therapist can assist them to overcome this disorder. Although many people in this line may find it arduous to overcome their anxiety fights. They try their best to achieve happiness and even successful goals.

What if this disorder is not real?

What if this disorder is not real?

People who fall into this category can affect others on a large scale. They may never think something good can happen. They will have the feeling that things are not possible. They will never be ready to achieve something by themselves. On the other hand, they create a negative atmosphere for the people living with them. They may become a barrier for others too. Every time cancelling plan is a quotidian for them. They may not even let other people to achieve something.

If they are so much obstructing own and other people tasks, then why can’t we call them anxiety patients? The reason is the number of symptoms represented for the anxiety level people does not match with this type of people. Hence, it is considerable that these sets of people will never take a step to gain happiness. Their tremendous involvement into the negative darkness enables them not to bother to open the door for the positive aura.

By now, you can now relate yourself under which category you fall off between the above two. If you don’t possess any of those qualities, then well and good. You surely possess a healthy mind.

When you have this form of a member in your family, the normal life may not be easy to perpetuate.  The best thing you can do is give them the anxiety treatment and to the ones who don’t have anxiety would still need to go through counseling. In case, these individuals are not ready for the treatment, then don’t give up. Take the trouble until they agree.

Furthermore, don’t let these people dominate your life. We cannot call them manipulators because they really have a negative belief. Do not let your life aspirations or even the daily plans get affected by their thoughts. It is quite impossible to argue with them. To be precise, the argument is not the best option for them. Being polite may work out sometime. But, try as much as possible to not let them take over your life or just do your tasks without informing them. This may not be possible to achieve by everyone, but nevertheless, we should always find ways to focus on our own life too.

What if you happen to find these type of people in your friends circle?

Maybe you can relax a bit in this case. Because you will always have other friends to carry out your plans. Maybe you will be ok with their cancellation plans. But, it may not be good if that person happens to be your best friend. They may not only cancel their plans, but they will also be sharing all their daily anxiety events with you.

It is good to help your best friend. Listen to them and motivate them to overcome anxiety. The best way is to always insist on them to meet the therapists. Because it is not possible for you to be always there for them. With the help of loved ones and the right counseling, their thoughts quality will change effectively.

Do you get the feeling that neither you nor any of your family or friends have it, so there is nothing much to worry? Well, yes to some extent it is really a good thing to live in a better atmosphere. But, then , yes then there is still a chance to find these unhealthy minds at work place or at learning place.
These people may have the ability and skills to score a good grade or complete a project. But, they will always feel they cannot do it. Even after writing a perfect exam or making a good project, they will still believe that they are the failures until they have the result in their hand.

Whereas there are other negative set people who will not do anything or may not take any efforts. They won’t be much help to you. It is not their laziness, they are just not interested to take the efforts. They don’t realize what team work is! They don’t realize why hard working or smart working is important. These people may become an obstacle in achieving your tasks.

Whose steps are you following to become someone/something else in your life?

Whose steps are you following to become someone/something else in your life?

Everyone of us needs to have inspiration. It can be a celebrity, social worker or someone we know in our real life who has been brave enough to have done something great. When we follow great person steps, we get motivated to do something in our life. We cannot deny the fact that more number of people are suffering from chronic illness and depression. With the help of social media, we are now being able to be aware of many life stories. We can find empathy and we can feel that we are not alone, there is someone else suffering in the same manner as we do.

With this help, we realize that our struggle is not alone. In circumstances, wherein we know our journey is challenging and when we find others going through the same thing, we need not focus on the same thing consistently.

For example : A person suffering from chronic illness has an unavoidable symptoms to pass each day. It is quite disappointing for many, as the illness is not understood by their family and friends. With this background, most of these patients come across forums and pages that show similar people. In this way, it is possible to feel there is someone to understand them. This is good as long as this sort of communication is kept moderate.

What would happen with an excess of connection with these kinds of group circle?

The patient may have fewer symptoms and still able to pass a normal day with more efforts. As the person reads social media posts or forum posts which show other patient’s posts has more symptoms than him/her. Those patients with more symptoms share how troublesome it is to pass a day and how much they are failing to get along with the normal life. This type of posts has high chances of affecting the less symptom patient. The patient may start thinking about how difficult it is to survive a normal day and follow the same steps. Excess of anything is not a good thing. So, an excess of following such type of posts is not a good thing either.
You need to follow the steps that motivate you and give you more willpower to make things possible.

To add on, some of the research work shows that anxiety is contagious. How can it be possible? It is not contagious like a viral fever. Spend time with anxiety people to help them recover. Listen to them. Motivate them. Be there whenever possible. Find solution to their problems by discussing with them. Remind them how strong they are and the world can be simple. But, at the same time also balance your own life by having a good positive source for yourself.

You may have heard, when you spend time with someone for a prolonged period of time, you tend to inherit some of their qualities. This cannot  be true in all the cases. Because each person may interact with multiple people and have different type of life. But, if you happen to spend an excess of your time per day/night with the same person for long years, then see it to it that you take care of your mindset too.

We cannot exclude the evil type of people who purposely stand as an obstacle in our goals. We can find manipulators and then there are dominators. Yes, all these types of people are also part of a negative mindset.

With this, we can explicitly conclude, such people can create distractions and perhaps block your tracks of accomplishing tasks. It is our own responsibility to take care of them by balancing our own flow of thoughts. At the end of the day, only we can do our best to keep ourselves happy.

7 Things To Avoid In Online Mental Help

title

It’s a good thing to approach helplines for mental help. The reason should not necessarily be for mental disorders or illness. Once in a while, we look out for emotional support. It may not be comfortable for us to share our matters with our family or friends. Sometimes sharing it with a stranger feels much better in terms of relaxing. This is where people search for online help. Consequently, online mental help is not just for medical terms of disorders. Online mental help provides assistance to all the people in need of hearing their stories or problems. This kind of helpline is available for temporary mental illness and permanent mental disorders. Many times, this is helpful for people who feel lonely. This is also a place wherein bored people find a room in to have a conversation with a random person. When we cannot receive emotional and mental help from our own people, we seek for new people. But, we cannot rely on this online platform blindly. Open your eyes and take the precautions before you open up your feelings to someone. Let’s figure out what seven things we need to avoid in online mental help.

1] Say No To Selfies

Don’t upload selfies in groups. Most mental health-related social media groups are filled with selfies. Many people share their story and ask for other people to do the same. Several members upload their selfies with the tag ”Selfie day” or “Birthday” and request people to share their selfies in the groups or comments. Not everyone in the group has a mental illness. Some are bamboozlers. They are misusing your information. Additionally, group hacking is not a new thing now. Any hackers who have access to the group can have access to your profile. Yes, it is better when you have a group of people going through the same illness but you need to be mindful while sharing your information.

2] Online Chats

Anyone can approach you in the name of help through online messages. Do not give away information without knowing the person in real. Don’t get easily emotionally attached to the person.

3] Online Helpline Chats

Apart from social media, there are sites which provide online mental help. Anyone can join to receive and give help. Bitterly, most helpers are perverts. 9 out of 10 people are perverts. So, don’t get carried away. Whenever you need online help, opt for a psychiatrist or psychologist. Before requesting for help to them, do a thorough check up on their background because some people fake their identity as a psychiatrist/psychologist/counselors on online profile data.

4] Low Motive Groups

When you are diagnosed with mental disorder, it is advisable to stay around healthy mind people. If you have more conversations with the same disorder people, it will be difficult for you to overcome your issues. Sometimes your disorders are curable and have fewer symptoms compared to others. But, if you keep re-reading more about other symptoms related to the same disorder, you will come across varied symptoms faced by others. Ultimately, most people develop symptoms by reading the same things daily. It is a trigger to mind and hence, the mind begins to think in the same manner. Yes, it cannot be a high-level influence but it can affect you in many ways.

For e.g.:  Someone is in a paralyzed state and bedridden for years. You will be reading it often; it won’t affect you. On the contrary, someone repeatedly posts about how weak they feel, how much they want to be treated like a disabled person, how slowly they are giving up a normal life and how healthy life is not for us. There are people who are waiting to get classified into a disability section. Such people’s daily stories will have an easy influence on your mind. Your mind is what you feed. So, it is always advisable to direct yourself towards improvement and positive people instead of people who will pull your motive strings down.

5] Say No To Random Medications

Yes, it is possible that it is difficult to find mental help in your city. When anyone suggests medicines to you through online mental help, avoid taking it. Doctors give medicines based on your weight, other physical checkup and after few meetings of mental counseling. Most medicines have side effects. Hence, be careful before taking it without right checkups. People post in social media groups and pages asking for medicines that worked for others. Any random member comment medicine names. Don’t just buy the ones which cured others. You don’t know whether the person has really taken it or not. Possibly, the person is advertising medicines. Moreover, you need to keep in mind your body structure and symptoms are different from others. Thus, what worked for others will not work for you until and unless it is guaranteed by doctors.

6] Self-diagnose

Doing proper deep research about any illness and self-diagnosing is alright. But don’t announce that you have it to anyone until the doctor confirms it. Don’t just go to the doctor and tell them that you have a disorder. Share your symptoms. Let the doctor diagnose and draw the conclusions. Majority of doctors don’t like to hear self-diagnosed illness but they are ready to know all of your symptoms. In case, you directly tell the name of your self-diagnosed illness, some doctors will think that your symptoms are also made up. Therefore, don’t give them the wrong impression of your health.
For e.g.:  A person can’t directly go to the doctor and say, ‘I have a bipolar disorder’ thereby, ask for meds. This won’t work out. As in this case, bipolar symptoms conflict with other disorders too. Again, every disorder has a certain level of symptoms and behavior. So, jumping into the conclusion all by yourself is an utterly bad idea.

7] Loneliness Help

None of the social media groups of mental illness people will help you in the right form. Unfortunately, not all social media posts can be monitored. Numerous groups have suicide posts. This is a trigger and unhealthy signal to everyone. To get rid of loneliness, you need to meet people in real life. Communication in real communities is much more important and positively influential than in online groups. Involving yourself in a different skillful activity will keep you away from loneliness. Don’t think that you are struggling alone and no one can understand you. The online group is not the only place where you find the same people with support for you. Whether or not you find the actual help in your city or town, you need to find ways to keep your mind with positive vibes.

All perverts and non-experts ask for your personal details. Some may try to show that they have an interest in you. Furthermore, many perverts join such groups and forums for sexual satisfaction. Be it physical health or mental health take precautions while asking for online help. Many organizations are ready to give the right help. But, some organizations don’t have real experts helpline. There are good counselors but some are pretenders. Your health is in your hands. Always take time to find the right help. Communicate only with positive and safe people in the group.
